Dr. Sakai joined Dermatology for Animals in 2011. She grew up in central California and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in microbial biology. After college, Dr. Sakai moved to the Midwest for veterinary school, graduating from Kansas State University in 2007.
After veterinary school Dr. Sakai completed a one year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in New Jersey. During this year, Dr. Sakai’s interest in dermatology was inspired by great mentorship and by the dermatology patients and their dedicated owners. Dr. Sakai began her dermatology residency in 2008 at Iowa State University. She completed her residency and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 2011.
Dr. Sakai currently works at our California clinics located in Campbell and Fremont. She particularly enjoys the challenges of managing allergic skin and ear disease, and is also very interested in fungal skin diseases.
During her free time, Dr. Sakai likes to read, cook, ski, hike, and visit national parks. She has two Labrador retrievers- Biscuit (healthy) and Tule (multiple dermatologic issues!).
